* Fructose used in medicine is crystalline fructose, not high fructose syrup. Because the glucose content of HFCS severely interferes with the medicinal effects of fructose. For example, diabetics who take crystalline fructose have the glycemic index of only about 20, while those who take HFCS with F-55 have a glycemic index of 50-60, almost as high as those who take sucrose.
